Hello all, thank you for stopping by. Seriously, I heart you.
This week has been a bit hectic in my writing world. From Pitmad to The Book of Phoenix blog tour, it’s been crazy. As much as I could launch into everything I’ve been up to, possibly resulting in boring you to tears, this post is dedicated to the Bookshelf Tag.
I was nominated by the amazing and wildly talented Justina Luther. I urge to to check out her blog, it is packed full of her creativity. You can see her talent for yourself by clicking here!
THE RULES For ‘The Bookshelf Tag’:
Answer the following questions about books, and then tag five other bloggers. You can answer the questions any way you want, whether it’s on your blog, in a video, or a combination of the two. Then remember to let whoever tagged you know when your post is up so they can read it.
1) Is there a book that you really want to read but haven’t because you know that it’ll make you cry?
Yes, long before the hype of the film I stumbled across a book about life with an obstinate Labrador – Marley and Me by John Grogan. I have never read this book because I know I will be in floods of tears in the end.
2) Pick one book that helped introduce you to a new genre.
Promise by Kristie Cook. I was more for psychological thrillers before I read this. My favorite authors include Kathy Reichs, Jefferson Bass and James Patterson. I can’t remember how I stumbled across her book but I am glad I did. This was the first New Adult book that I have read and aside form reading all of Kristie’s books since, I have read other NA books too.
3) Find a book you want to reread.
Never Say Die by Tess Gerritsen. A combination of the setting (South East Asia) and the plot just hooked me. It’s one of Tess’s stand alone’s and I have read it so many times that my copy is battered but I love it. It’s a great read for both male and female readers and I highly recommend it.
4) Is there a book series you read but wish that you hadn’t?
Yes, oh yes, yes, yes. I bought a series on amazon. It was a vampire book and the first one started really well but by the 3rd the protagonist wanted to shack up with every male with a heartbeat, honestly – there are three she wants to do the dirty with. Potential suitors were bigged up so I really rooted for them, then all of a sudden would turn evil for no good reason. It’s one of those rare series that I never finished. I think there were four or five books and, as far as I can tell through research, the author has written nothing since. Just as well. I don’t want to write the names of the books or the author as I just haven’t the heart to publicly trash someone’s writing.
5) If your house was burning down and all of your family and pets were safe, which book would you go back inside to save?
My daughter asked me this the other day, It would have to be my first edition Harry Potter and the Order of The Phoenix hardback.
6) Is there one book on your bookshelf that brings back fond memories?
Absolutely, The Faraway Tree by Enid Blyton. Her writing captivated me as a child and does the same now. Her books painted worlds in my head with words.
7) Find a book that has inspired you the most.
Vale of the Vole by Piers Anthony. The imagery in that book is fantastic. That book is what made me want to write. I was really young when I read it and I just thought – wow, this is incredible. If you can get your hands on a copy, read it!
8) Do you have any autographed books?
Nope, but I do want to get Order of the Phoenix signed.
9) Find the book that you have owned the longest.
My husband is ex-military so we moved around a lot. Books were not a luxury we could afford to lug around so I always passed them on to friends so Never Say Die is the book I have had the longest and that was given to me by my Mum-in-law about six years ago.
10) Is there a book by an author that you never imagined you would read or enjoy?
Yes, Watchers by Dean Koontz. I am a wimp when it comes to horror so I avoid authors who are so adept at scaring the living crap out of me. However, I was advised that Watchers was not so bad, so I read it and I am glad I did. Excellent book!
Thank you Justina for nominating me!
Stay tuned as I update with my nominees as they happen.
First Nominee!
Second Nominee!
Thank you so much for your kind words, Emma.
Your answers were really interesting!
Thank you Justina, my words about you were just the plain and simple truth 🙂 And thank you for the nomination – it was fun!!
You’re welcome! (Bwahahahaha I’ll be sure to tag you from now on when I get posts like this.)
lol!!! Fire away 😀
Okay, now remember, you asked for it. haha 😉
haha, I don’t mind but I can see us posting A LOT over the next few weeks as I have things planned for you hahaha 😀
… Me and my big fat mouth. haha I hope my readers don’t mind bonus posts.
Same here! I have a whole string to get through but it should be fun.
I’m going to start trying to string things out so I don’t lose readers by flooding their inboxes. haha I have a friend who told me she specifically unfollows a blog if they post too often. She’s had me spooked ever since.
Yeah, definitely space them out. I guess I won’t get any help finding my shoe for a while…..LOL
… Okay, I might have to do that one because it just sounds too odd to pass up. I’m trying to set up separate pages to pull award posts and stuff like ‘the bookshelf tag’ to so my blog doesn’t get messy. I’ll let you know if it works.
No, that was just the name of my net blog post but it’ll have to go on the back burner for a while 🙂 Oh yes, do let me know. I think that’s an excellent idea, clever you!
Woohoo! It did! First you create a page. I did a ‘blog awards’ page. After I published that page I created another page and named it after the one lovely blog post and named the awards page as its parent. This puts it into a drop down menu under blog awards.
Awesome, well done. So with these pages will it ensure that our followers won’t be getting tonnes of emails from us?
I think so, but it also means these aren’t shown as posts. I think what I’m going to do is leave them as posts for a few weeks (2-3) and then delete the posts and just have them as pages. I don’t like messy blogs. haha As for bombarding readers with email, I’m not certain what to do about that.
Hmm, difficult. Although it’ll still show the widget on the side of your page. You could even link up the widget to lead to the page.
True, but if I’ve tagged or nominated someone and they go to look at the post I’ve turned into a page, thus giving it a different address, then what? haha
Oh true, bummer!! lol
haha I guess I can deal with my page being that way for a few weeks. It’s only right to give people a chance. (Sorry for bringing a conversation into your comment!)
That’s okay, it’s all good fun lol! Yeah, it won’t be for long. How many posts have you got left?
Just the Leibster tomorrow. And then back to my regularly scheduled programming.
I just emailed you 🙂 At least you can breathe again 🙂
I’ve nominated you for the Liebster Award! Here’s the link if you’d like to know more. http://justinaluther.wordpress.com/2014/09/12/the-liebster-award/
Thank you Justine 🙂 🙂 🙂 I really appreciate it x
I wasn’t tagged, and I don’t even know 5 people here to tag, but still feel compelled to share anyway 😛
1. Boy In The Striped Pyjamas.
2. I Am Pilgrim – espionage so well written, really pulled me in despite my hesitancy.
3. Any and all Chrismas themed stories. Essential during the holiday season.
4. Not really sure of its status as a series, but The Tao of Pooh and The Te of Piglet. Hoped it would provide answers to my life. But left me thinking why did I waste my time….
5. Would love to grab all my firsts and autographed books, but the one I’d choose would be Love and Marriage by Bill Cosby – beautiful leather-bound and autographed edition which is probably my.most valuable.
Thank you for posting and adding yours! You have a great list there! Your Bill Cosby book sounds lovely. Thanks 🙂
First edition Harry Potter! Absolutely. I have all my hardcover HPbooks up on the shelf in easy access, so I’d grab the lot of them 🙂
Great post!
Thank you 🙂 and thank you for stopping by 🙂
